"I was in solitary confinemeant for five years while I was in prison. And that meant art supplies were rare. I wasn't allowed to possess real pens, pencils, or erasers. So I had to learn not to make mistakes. This piece took around 20 hours to complete, free hand, with a security flex pen, that is a pen with no hard plastic casing, just the inside tube with a flimsy rubber sheath that prevents one from having a lethal weapon.

"While I was in prison I studied the masters to improve my abilities as an artist, Jacques-Louis David was one of those masters."

The man in this drawing is Marat. On 13 July 1793, Marat, David's friend was assassinated by Charlotte Corday with a knife she had hidden in her clothing.

David painted his good friend to immortalize him and ensure the world would never forget Marat. This simple but powerful painting catalyzed the french revolution.

"In 2006 my brother, Johnathan "Roman" MacLagan was an innocent bystander who was killed in the cross fire of a gang fueled drive by shooting. He was only 20 years old. I drew him like David drew Marat, to make him immortal, because one day I'll also be gone, but the art will remain.."
